UPE757F TRIUMPH TR4A
Stalled project;
excellent chassis; overdrive gearbox; front seats retrimmed in leather; most
major parts present; get stuck in and it will be back on the road for the
summer!
Providing you have a big box of spanners, you like a good
jigsaw puzzle and you have plenty of time on your hands, this could be the
answer you’ve been looking for.
When it first rolled out of a Triumph
dealer’s showroom in Surrey back in April 1968, UPE 757F was no doubt a joy to
behold with its Wedgewood Blue paint, matching blue leather interior, gleaming
chrome and overdrive gearbox. But scroll forward 50 years and look at the poor
thing now. A previous owner has made a start on restoring it to its former glory
but, as you can see, there is still a long way to go.
In fact it is now a
combination of two cars, a relatively rust-free American import and the mortal
remains of the original TR4A. All you have to do is mix and match the best bits
of both to get it exactly how you like it. The chassis is in very good shape,
the body shell from the USA donor car is eminently saveable and the TR4 was
designed from the outset to be assembled in RHD or LHD so swapping the steering
wheel to the side you prefer shouldn’t pose much of a problem.
Most, if
not all, of the major oily bits are still present including the engine, the IRS
axle, dash instruments, splined hubs and an overdrive gearbox (the latter
reputedly rebuilt but this can’t be guaranteed) and there may even be duplicates
of some of them. The front seats have already been expertly retrimmed in
Wedgewood Blue leather so that is another job you can tick off the list. The
only bits known to be missing are the wheels but the car does come on a wheeled
trolley so moving it around is not a problem.
The engine supplied retains
its carbs, dizzy and water pump and is numbered CT65474E.
This project
TR4A is being offered here strictly ‘as seen’ on the photos – the having
supplied as many parts as possible to make a complete car but being unable to
guarantee that every single part is present.
This is a proper Meccano kit
and for someone familiar with the mark, will hold no frighteners......and comes
with a current V5C.
