1972 GVG847K VOLKSWAGEN KARMANN
GHIA
Recently imported; UK registered; only three owners;
new fuel tank fitted; recently detailed and striking bodywork
Sharing
most of the metalwork and mechanicals of the beetle, the Karmann Ghia is
air-cooled ode to joy and is especially appealing in bright orange paintwork and
soft-top format exemplified by this 1972 model.
GVG
847K was imported in 2017 and our vendor says it has had only two previous
owners. The car has recently had a new petrol tank fitted which then led on to
other things culminating in serious attention to the paintwork which, delayed by
the sourcing of correct trim and badges, has only just been completed.
The
vendor also took the opportunity to tidy up other aspects of the car, including
fitting a new hood which cost over £1,000 but admits that the interior
does not now match the standard of the exterior. It is, however, original and
serviceable and replacement parts are available should the new owner wish to
carry on the good work. There are still a few jobs to sort, mainly in the
braking and wiring departments, but hey, its a basic VW - how hard can it be?
The
car is left-hand-drive (as they all were) and is blessed with the more powerful
1,600cc engine (“more-powerful” is a relative term when used with reference to
VW air-cooled engines). Anyone with even a passing knowledge of air-cooled VWs
will be aware of the customising/tuning options for these cars but we think this
car is cute enough as it stands. It is on offer at a very reasonable level, given
the quality respray, new hood and sound underpinnings.
