1974 DATSUN 260Z

Desirable two-seater Z-car; ex-California and imported in 2017; a rare dust covered beauty having not been driven since 1988; engine turns; fantastic potential

Typical: you wait ages for an American import ‘70s Datsun Z coupé to come along and then two turn up at the same time! No, you are not seeing double (you really do need your eyes testing) this is a 1974 Z car, a twenty-six ounce (260Z) model – basically an earlier version of the 280Z also on offer in this auction. Seen by some as the ‘more desirable’ iteration, this one still bears its California plates, has an auto box, some truly groovy wide wheels (our ‘70s funkmeister reckons they are Western Turbine wheels) and the rare (1974/75 only) Wood Brown Metallic paintwork. The slightly seedy sandblast finish only makes it more appealing. You will not be surprised to hear that the car is a non-runner but pleased to hear that the engine does turn over. Our funkmeister also believes the California domicile and dry storage following import means that the rust is only surface-deep. You should see his MGB! The car is not UK-registered but does have a NOVA form and American papers which should make registration simple. The options are endless with this car – restore it, drift it, circuit race it, or do the bare minimum to make it legal and upset the OCD purists. We rather like the last option.
