This late 1996 SL500 is a fine example of the 'sweet spot' in these R129 Mercedes; it has the overdrive transmission with the original better performing V8 motor.

The vendor tells us that the car has been an absolute pleasure to drive, whisper smooth and quick to roar when told to. The original owner delayed delivery, upgrading his order to the unique blue/green colour, panoramic hard-top and carbon-fibre inlays instead of woodgrain.

With low mileage (73,500 miles), the car comes with the M500SLN number plate.

It had an electrical system service by Silek motors in January and given an clean bill of health plus MOT to January 2021. The current owner bought the car two years ago but has recently moved to the Netherlands, so would otherwise not be selling the vehicle; he loves it.

He still has contact with the previous owner in London, who provided him with numerous service records including; old MOT’s, service stamps, new front springs, new soft-top mechanism and other minor items.

The car is rust free and has very few blemishes to the original blue/green metallic paint. The all leather interior with memory seats is clean and well presented. The roll bar functions as intended and the hard top attaches and removes easily. A roof or hoist mounted hard top cradle is included.

The car is fitted with a modern stereo, but the original is also provided. There is some minor crazing on the carbon fibre centre console and the current owner was going to rectify that using a donner console (also provided) finished to match the old one, but the moment past and he has left it as is.

We have seen plenty of these R129s over the years and this example is right up amongst the best we have seen and no doubt will still be going strong in another 24 years.
