1989 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6
SOLD
£3,528
Supplied new in March 1989 by Maloney & Rhodes
Mercedes this retro-ride is finished in lovely Nautic Blue with contrasting grey
cloth interior. The specification includes optional air conditioning,
electric driver's seat, four electric windows, electric passenger mirror,
illuminated vanity mirrors, head light wash/wipe, burr walnut trim, Blaupunkt
Melbourne SQR26 radio cassette player (still fitted and working!) traction
control and electric tilt and slide sunroof. This car also benefits from
the rarer option of five speed manual (not dog-leg) transmission which really
lets you enjoy the flexibility of the range-topping 2.6 litre straight-six
engine.
This example has had just three owners previous owners and has
evidently been well cared for. During the current tenure, our vendor has
opted to enhance its retro appeal by fitting a set of gorgeous 16inch vintage
X-spoke alloy wheels shod with new tyres, removed the original aging suspension
in favour of adjustable sports dampers and springs from Germany and had a
bespoke stainless exhaust built by the artisans at 304 Stainless Exhausts of
Worcester in 2019. The results speak for themselves, turning heads with the
lower ride hight, attractive wheels improved stance and sonerous crackle of the
engine through the cheeky twin exit slash cut exhaust.
The car
presents well, and appears in very good order cosmetically, mechanically and
inetrnally. The history file includes a V5C, owners manuals, purchase
invoice from April 1991 when the car had covered just 28,494 miles for £17,000,
service book showing some 19 stamps, 10 of which were by main dealers.
There are a selection of sundry invoices on file including for white (clear)
indicators lenses from July 2019, the Calibre alloy wheels and more
recently new brake pads in Feb of this year. The car comes with 2 keys and
a current MOT until 14th February 2021 with 2 minor advisories.
The MOT history which includes some 17 old MOT certificates shows the
car to have been off the road from 2014 until Feb 2019 during which time our
vendor purchased the car out of a storage facility and got it on the road
again. We are informed the odometer is tempramental and looks to have
stuck at 123,430 in 2014 with no use until presented for MOT in Feb 2019 since
when it has covered less than 300 miles with our vendor.
A cool car for
sure, and an exceptionally rare version being both 2.6 and manual. Given the way
the smaller engined Cosworth versions have climbed in price, this represents
something of a bargain and an ideal opportunity to jump on it and enjoy
it.
