1924 Vauxhall M-Type 14/40 Melton

Reserve
Direct from Vauxhall Motors Heritage Collection;
delightful 14-40 with ownership history from nearly new; Griffin mascot; lovely
patina; for recommissioning
This delightful 14-40 M-type dates from
1924. It's original buff logbook shows that by April 1925 it was with
Vauxhall Motors in Great Portland Street, London. It was soon sold to Mr Cripps
of Wandsworth Common who kept it until 1951 when Mr Perryman Heathcote took it
to live in Lymington, the car soon passing into the hands of Mr
Creagh-Osbourne who kept it until 1958.
The continuation book details
further ownership changes in 1969 and 1973, the car joining Vauxhall's
Heritage Collection in 1998.
Still fitted with its original Melton
two-seater and dickey coachwork by Vauxhall Motors, it looks to have been
restored many years ago and seen little subsequent use. The chassis and bodywork
therefore remain in excellent condition.
It has been fitted with a
new set of beaded-edge tyres and a good mohair hood in living memory,
yet has remained part of Vauxhall's static display for some years. It's
mechanical condition is unknown, although we are advised that the water-pump
will need some work. There are two tax discs on file from 1957 and 1994, two
buff logbooks, an old style logbook and a current V5C.
The large
wheel/tyre combination and delicate bodywork make for a really attractive
looking Vintage tourer, especially as it retains its correct instrumentation,
floorboards and even comes with a Joseph Fray (of Birmingham) aftermarket
Griffin mascot.
On offer at No Reserve, this is a most appealing example
of one of Vauxhall's finest.
