1990 Mercedes 230CE (W124)
Super rare manual
example with 2.3 litre four-cylinder engine with just 69,307 miles by its 2
owners - superb throughout
Dating from October 1989 this rather smart W124 series
230CE coupe was originally supplied in Holland and registered in the UK in
November 1990 by its first owner. Finished in two-tone dark grey over light grey
as with many MB’s of this era, it is in remarkable order and still wears its
original spec plastic Mercedes wheel trims, everything being an optional extra
in those days.
The specification includes sunroof, central locking,
heated rear screen, dual zone temperature control, automatic seat belt butlers,
four electric windows, electric passenger mirror and the fantastic tan leather
upholstery witnessed in the images above contrasting with optional Zebrano wood
interior trim.
This 230CE features the more economical 134bhp M102.982
engine mated unusually to a five speed manual gearbox, a rare option on the
coupes.
With only two owners from new and just 69,307 miles
recorded, this is a car to be cherished much as its current and last owners
have. The first owner kept the car until 2017 when our vendor purchased it from
a specialist dealer and has continued to use it sparingly.
The history file includes a detailed service history
record showing some £12,463 has been spent on routine servicing and additional
repair work. There are a ream of invoices on file, many by MB main dealers and
include a cylinder head refurbishment by MB of Eastbourne at 56,084 miles at a
cost of £1,824. In addition, the car had 2 new brake callipers and discs by MB
of Macclesfield in June 2018 at a cost of £1,033. More recently, the CE was
treated to new clutch slave and master cylinders this year.
The owners pack with manuals and service book showing some
14 stamps are also present, the last stamped service by Rushton Garage of
Macclesfield in April 2019 at 64,647 miles which bodes well, as does the current
clean MOT running until December 2020. Five old MOTs are present in
addition to this plus two ignition keys, spare wheel, warning triangle and
tool kit.
A fine car, in fine form and one from the era where MB
really knew how to make a quality car. We love them.
