1979 Range Rover Classic
Superb F-suffix
two-door in Bahama Gold; enhanced handling kit; fresh from a total
nut-and-bolt restoration and in wonderful condition throughout
As the Heritage Certificate confirms, this Range Rover
Classic was built in July 1979 and sold to its first owner via Hartwells Ltd of
Banbury in October 1979. Finished in its original colour of Bahama Gold, it is
one of the ‘F’ suffix two-door models that were produced from October 1977 to
September 1979, all fitted with the 135bhp version of the Rover 3.5 V8 petrol
engine.
Our vendor acquired it in February 2017 from a gentleman
who had owned it for 22 years and over the next two years he treated it to a
total body-off restoration with the spectacular results you see today. The
extent of the work carried out is too detailed to list in full here but is amply
documented in numerous invoices and over 100 photos on file.
The bodywork was restored with new inner and outer sills,
rear wheel arches, floor panels etc. and box sections and cavities
were rust-proofed. The engine was stripped down and inspected which
revealed it to be in excellent health and needing nothing other than new
gaskets. The suspension was fully rebuilt using an Enhanced Handling Kit
supplied by Famous Four of Lincs, comprising gas shocks and heavy duty coil
springs all round with poly bushes on the radius arms and Panhard rod.
The brake system was completely renewed with new discs,
calipers etc, a new wiring harness fitted along with a new fuel tank, stainless
steel exhaust, halogen headlamps, set of five new Cooper tyres, complete
interior retrim – the list goes on and on. The attention to detail is exemplary
and it is as clean underneath as it is up top.
Driven some 50 miles to the sale, it has an MOT until
December 2020 with just one rather pedantic advisory – ‘front seat handle
release missing for back rests’. As good an example as you could ever wish to
find, it looks mighty tempting at the modest guide price suggested.
