1939 SS Jaguar 1.5 Saloon
Nice entry level SS
Jaguar coming with Buff log book and documents dating from the
'60s
Dating from 1939, this attractive SS Jaguar 1.5 Saloon
represents affordable entry to this marque. It comes with little history
bar current V5C and early Buff log book showing a Mrs Muriel Shepherd
of Portchester as the then owner, followed by a Mr Ward who resided on the Isle
of Wight.
Further documents on file include correspondence from the
early 1960s between FJ ward Esq of Hampshire and various motor factors and parts
suppliers regarding prices and details or various parts for the car.
We also note an undated bill of sale for the car for £15,
with a signed postage stamp making it a legal document at the time along with
some period Insurance renewal notices from 1962 (premium of £9.50!) and road
vehicle license from the Isle of Wight County Council also dated sept 1961
In addition to the above there is a rather nice Period
Fina lubrication service booklet, although unstamped, 2 MOT test certificates
dated September 1960 and May 1963 plus original Instruction manual and more
modern DVD of parts and service manuals for SS & Jaguar saloon.
The car is understood to run well, presenting well in
light sage green with super black wire wheels and Olive green leather interior
in a nicely patinated state. We are given to understand from the vendor that the
car was restored in Europe prior to import back to the UK in August 1998,
although there is nothing on file to support this.
Make what you will of the lack of history, but the car
looks well and with some fettling would no doubt make a very fine car
indeed.
