2001 Porsche Boxster S (986)

Sought after 3.2 S variant recently treated to a £4,777 overhaul by Parr's of Crawley and showing just 72,317 miles

Supplied new by Lancaster Porsche of Bow, London in December 2000 and built at the Valmet Plant in Finland (502), this 986 series Boxster S features the powerful 248bhp 3.2 litre flat-six mounted in the middle for ideal weight distribution driving the rear wheels here, through 6-speed manual transmission. Finished in gleaming and oddly uncommon Pearl Black (L744) with matching Black interior (Z8) the car looks sporting yet purposeful and aggressive, particularly sat on its 18 inch Sport design alloy wheels (XRL) painted charcoal with red painted brake callipers inside and large drilled and vented discs.

The de-coded options sticker inside the service book and under the bonnet shows the car was well optioned when new, and includes an Arctic Silver centre console (XJB), centre bracket (XKX) instrument surround (XKX), rool-over hoop (XNY) and dashboard trim strip (XRL) all finished in Arctic Silver too.  We also find colour coded centre cap crests (446), a stronger battery (when new) (197), 2-way electric sports seats (375 & 376), a CD compartment (424), Porsche crested head rests (XSC), 6-speaker sound system (490), wind deflector (551), top-tinted windscreen (567), activated charcoal filter (571), automatic air conditioning (573), storage box mounted behind the seats (584), Becker CDR-22 (695)  - removed, but boxed under the bonnet, extended leather to the dash and doors (981) and leather seats (983).  The infotainment now comes from a Pioneer DA120 double din wide screen after-market unit giving clearer usability and a more up to date listening experience with Bluetooth capability.

Starting promptly as we moved it around for these images, the car looks and sounds well, as it should given its modest and now comparibly low mileage of just 72,317 miles.  Our vendor of the last year has enjoyed the car, progressing now to an older air-cooled 911 from the '70s.

Within the history file we find the V5C showing 5 former keepers, the owner's pack and service book revealing 11 service stamps, 10 by OPC and the last in january 2020 at 70,431 miles by Parr UK, a well regarded independant Porsche Specialist.  In addition, there are a further 7 stamps for brake fluid changes, 5 stamps for long-life condition guarantee checks and another 2 for air bag system checks.

Furthermore, an thick sheaf of invoices shows that while at Parr UK Ltd in January 2020, the car was subject to a £4,773 spend on a major service (as stamped) and other works including a replacement reconditioned steering rack, brake fluid change, new exhaust gaskets, flanges and bolts, new Sports exhaust (£880 + vat alone!), new oil/air seperator, heat exchanger, new engine oil cooler, plus other bits at 70,431 miles.  The invoices on file date back to 2001 with significant, scheduled main dealer annual service work and bills carried out.  In addition another file includes other misc invoices including purchase and installation of the Pioneer head unit at an eye-watering £710 in June 2016, wheel refurbish in 2011 at £528, parts invoices and an old purchase receipt. 

The car boasts a current MOT valid until January 2022 with no advisories recorded and a selection of 8 old MOTs, the vendor kindly also including a few spares in a box under the bonnet and original hardback sales brochure.

Ideal entry into the Porsche scene with more than enough performance to enjoy with looks and attitude a plenty.  If you've never driven a 986 Boxster, the car that saved Porsche from ruin in the '90s, started off a new genre and spawned the Cayman, then you're in for a treat, they are terrific and surprisingly practical with 2 boots!
