Description
1980 Yamaha XT250
A lovely two-owner bike with
just 8,193 miles; previous owner 38 years; recent strip and refurb to lovely
condition; rarer than the XT500 and a lot easier to manage!
This
splendid 1980 XT250 has only had two owners over the last 41 years. The first, a
sculptural artists for Raiders of the Lost Ark put almost all of the modest
8,200 miles on the bike, the current owner purchasing it and undertaking a
comprehensive rebuild.
After stripping, the frame, swing arm and some
ancillary metalwork parts were professionally powder-coated and the swing arm
pin, pivot bushes and seals were all replaced, along with new brake linings to
the front and rear hubs. During the rebuild many nuts bolts and washers were
replaced with stainless items and the wheels were rebuilt with stainless spokes,
new tyres, rim tapes and tubes.
The carburettor was reconditioned with a
service pack, but essentially the machine had done so little work that it
was more a case of stripping, cleaning and re-assembly rather
than restoration. Oil and filters etc were changed as a matter or
course.
Stainless fittings apart, the bike retains its
originality, down to the few witness marks on the tank and guards, but it is
undeniably a super machine offering a considerably easier riding experience than
its brutish XT500 big brother (which of course we all lust after).
It has
a current V5C, comes with three keys, reciepts for the work done and was MOTd
back in 2019 (now expired) but only ridden 14 miles which explains its inclusion
in the sale today.
