Description
1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL
Only six
previous keepers; not used regularly for the last seven
years ; will need some re-commissioning; only offered for sale
due to a multiple Mercedes collecting problem
First
registered in May 1972, this classic 350SL was purchased by the previous
owner in 2014. Being an avid collector of the Mercedes brand he
couldn’t resist adding another to his fleet, although unfortunately the more
cars you have, the fewer miles each one covers.
This particular SL
has been used very little in the last few years and was put on SORN in
February last year, being left stationary in a barn collecting dust.
Looking rather ‘barn-find unloved,’ covered in its own magic dust when we first
saw it, 8731 VC was then sold by us. The buyer unfortunately mis-calculated the
time his workshop had to fit it in so although it has enjoyed a scenic trip to
Hertfordshire and back last month, it is now seeking another new
home.
It is a worthwhile project. It last
passed an MOT in 2016 and currently does need some encouragement to run, due to
having been kept stationary for some time. New battery, fresh fuel and a good
run needed! We understand that the brakes have been released since we sold it
last time and a mild tidy up has been done but there is plenty still to
do.
As is evident from the photographs, the hood is in need of some
correction. As always, corrosion is a factor with these vehicles and we
have noted that in 2013, a number of corrosion issues were highlighted on an
MOT. Some of these have been attended to over the past few years but
we note that work is required, especially within the
flooring.
Definitely a car worth
restoring and potentially a healthy investment in the right hands - a
desirable transferable registration too.
