1935 Morris 10/4 Saloon
No Reserve
Part
restored example; a nice old car with potential; lots of work done; new fuel
tank; sunroof repairs etc; engine issues to resolve
This charming old Morris 10/4 Saloon was first registered on 11th
April 1935 and, according to its accompanying buff logbook, had moved to
Leatherhead by 1948.
Its then owner, Mr Patterson kept it until Richard
Dunning of Chelsea took over in 1968. By September of that year, Malden Auto
Services had fully overhauled the engine with new white-metal and a rebore to
+040". The old style logbook shows he moved to Great Malden and was to keep the
car for some years, until at least 1983 when the new logbook was issued. During
his ownership, bills from the early 1970s list a rear axle overhaul, king pins
and rear springs etc.
Jumping to 2019, the car was in the hands of
the vendor's friend who started more restoration work. There are bills on file
for a new aluminium rear petrol tank, brake hoses, engine gasket set and a full
carburettor rebuild at the cost of £244. The vendor, a serial Morris 10/4
collector took on the project due to the former owner's ill health, but has
decided it is one step too far for him to complete having now completely run out
of space and momentum.
He took the engine for reconditioning at Phoenix
Rebore in Hereford (highly recommended) who stripped the unit to find a
crack in the block at the base of bore number two...this was the final straw
hence the inclusion of the car in the sale today.
If you happen to have a
spare Morris block in the shed, or fancy installing something with a bit more
go, or are simply willing to invest in some clever welding or cold stitching to
repair this block, BXP 275 looks an enticing project.
The V5c suggests
that the number is still transferable and it comes with some service
information, a Pitman's book on the Morris Ten and an original
handbook.
There has already been lots of work done and it has clearly
been loved for many years. On offer at No Reserve, the highest bid on the day
buys this nice old car which is in need of a new home.
