Rarer 197bhp GPX
model with auto/tiptronic 'box; JDM spec with howling 2.0 V6 MIVEC - lots
of fun
Dating from 1996 this
(pre-facelift) quirky, angular JDM spec 2+2 coupe features the howling
transversely mounted 2.0 DOHC V6 24valve engine, developing here, in rarer and
more desirable GPX guise 197bhp with MIVEC technology, driving the front wheels
via 4-speed automatic/tiptronic transmission which was claimed
to 'learn' the driver's driving style in tiptronic/manual mode for later
driving in auto mode.
The spec of the GPX model includes 4-piston
callipers up front, side skirts, 16inch alloy wheels, rear boot spoiler,
automatic air conditioning and optional rear spoiler, as fitted to this
car. Finished in grey with grey cloth interior with sports seats its a
cool little package with pokey engine and typically 90's JDM looks which are
growing in appreciation and demand. Showing 79,900 km on the clock
(unwarranted) its unclear if this is all Km, or a mix, as many imports had their
clocks changed to record in Mph and therefore have a mixed odometer
history.
The history file includes only the V5C showing the car was
imported to the UK in March 2005 since when its had 6 prior owners to the
current and fresh MOT valid until March 2022 with four advisories recorded.
The earliest MOT online in 2006 shows the car had covered an indicated
27,003km/miles showing consistent, regular use throughout the years following
until 2016 when it looks to have been off the road until this year.
The
car presents well for its 25 year age with a few marks commensurate with that
and we note the wheels would no doubt benefit from a refurb, but it looks to be
an honest little sports coupe and a lot of fun. Interesting fact relating
to the FTO, the model name means -"Fresh
Touring Origination: a touring model overflowing with freshness, youthfulness
and originality" - how terribly Japanese!
