Description
1979 Ford Escort RS2000 MKII
Ripe for
recommissioning following time in a private collection in Southern
Ireland following 33 years in the Isle of Man
Initially a UK supplied car, registered here on 10th
May 1979 with registration DRY 548T, this MkII RS2000 Escort is finished
in Midnight Blue and originally featured cream Beta interior and shows just
80,000 miles.
The car was then registered in the Isle of Man in April
1981 as ZV 31568, this keeper appearing to own the car until 2007 with a further
four owners including a motor dealer until our vendor purchased the car and
registered it in the Republic of Ireland in December 2014 where it has remained
as part of his large private collection on the West Coast until coming to us to
be offered for sale.
The car is understood to be in an unrestored and largely
original state. Starting promptly and running well it moved around with relative
ease although buyers please note, the brakes need attention and stopping power
is limited. The front seats are loose (as pictured) but in good order. The shell
looks to be in structurally good order without the usual rot in evidence around
the A-pillars or engine bay and sits on what look to be original 4-spoke wheels.
Within the history file, we find the Irish log book, first
application for taxation of the car in Ireland, Irish import receipt (dated
12/2014), Irish SORN notifications, IoM log books (x2) confirming import to the
IoM in 1981 and confirming original UK registration mark prior to import,
Certificate of permanent export from the IoM dated November 2014, copy duplicate
IoM registration certificates, invoice showing 700Euros spent on parts in
November 2014 including a timing belt, rear bumper, rear lights, bulkhead cover
etc, another invoice for a £1,357 spend in 2015 on Recaro front seat covers,
custom door panels, boot carpet etc plus a host of period road test re-prints,
period sales media, brochures and articles, all neatly bound in clear plastic
wallets within a folder.
The car will be NOVA’d on successful sale for the new
owner ready to be registered in the UK, unless of course the lucky bidder is
from Southern Ireland, in that case it is good to go and already registered!
A super opportunity to recommission with some sensitive
restorative work or go the whole hog and completely restore – either way it
represents considerable value at the enticing estimate for an unmolested RS2000
with low indicated mileage particularly given the upwards trend of Fast Fords in
recent years – we expect the bidding to be exciting.
**BUYERS PLEASE
NOTE The car is of course from the EU, and as such the rules have recently
changed. We have undertaken to make a NOVA declaration on successful sale
for the new owner, but any fees and Duty due will be the laibility of the buyer
but given the car is a Classic car, of some 41 years in age we understand the
Duty is of a minimal amount **
