1977 MGB Roadster
Eye-catching 'B with tasty
mods including Sebring style front and rear GRP bumper mouldings, bonnet
straps and roll bars
Dating from August 1977, this formerly rubber
bumpered B has undergone some recent works to include fitment of neater
Sebring style front and rear bumpers, bonnet straps, lovely dark grey
Minilite-style 14inch alloy wheels, roll bars and LeMans graphics on the body
giving a racier look to the car along with engine rebuild and
restoration through 2015 - 2017.
On file, we find the V5C, series of
photos showing the car prior to modification dated 2015 and a host of invoices
including a £730 spend in September 2017 on engine components for rebuild
including new pistons, bored block to 040", main bearings, big end bearings etc
by Saunders Motor Works of Southampton, followed by another invoice dated
October 2017 for a new clutch kit, head gasket set, new studs for the cylinder
head, braided oil cooler hoses costing £231, followed by another at the same
time for £193 spent on a new standard camshaft, cam follower, oil pump, bottom
gasket set, crankshaft oil seal, timing cover seal, Simplex timing chain and
tensioner.
Through 2015 to 2017 the spend continued with new
seat webbing, back and base foams along with new condensor and contacts, new
front calipers, brake fluid, pads and brake hoses, new coil springs, thermostat,
heater pipes and a host of other parts including new sill, inner wing,
splash panel and Sebring style bumpers from RPS of Lowestoft costing
£274.
Older invoices show a £639 spend on bodywork repairs (wing
seams, bootlid, boot valance etc) in May 2003 with earlier bodywork
renovation in 1996 including replacement doors, wings, bonnet, boot, rear
half wings, sills and castle sections plus repaint totalling £2,900 at
Cleevewood Garage, Bristol. In July 1998 they also supplied 5 Minilite wheels,
an unleaded head, new boot carpet, boot rack, new hood and frame repair, fitted
a 15" Motolita steering wheel and replaced the windscree at further cost of
£1,050 in parts alone and fitment of a lowering block kit in 2014.
The B
is of course both Tax and MOT exempt, with the last MOT being issued in May 2017
at 5,064 miles (105,064 miles) with no advisories recorded. There are 10 old
MOTs on file dating back to July 1996 at which time the car had covered 72,426
miles. The car currently shows 113,561 miles) and looks like a lot of fun for
the modest guide price. Yes there are a few blisters and marks but fundamentally
it looks a good usable car with some tasteful upgrades, smart blue hood, black
vinyl interior, nice wheels, unleaded head and fruity exhaust
note.
