Description
2002 Morgan 4/4 two-seater
A superb
low-mileage example; heavily optioned including Simmons hood and fitted luggage;
lots of history
John Gill Ltd in Bedale supplied
this attractive 4/4, its sole owner to date selecting as many options as he
could from the extensive list offered by the factory.
Fitted with the excellent 1.8-litre Zetec Ford engine which was
mounted in Morgan’s pretty and most-traditional narrow-body and axles, the car
offered a great turn of speed, was nimble and offered a surprisingly comfortable
ride (contrary to common folklore).
The colour
selected was Jaguar Sea Frost and the seats were trimmed in Ocean Green leather,
the initial bill totalling £28,713.
Shortly
after delivery, the car was delivered to Simmonds in Malvern, an ex-Morgan
employee who set up in business providing upgraded hoods and accessories for
Morgans.
He added a green mohair hood
conversion which was easier to use than the factory supplied item along with
hood cover. The sidescreens were also leather trimmed on the inside and a bag
provided in green mohair. Numerous small accessories were added including a now
redundant tax disc holder (remember those?), bonnet corners, booster cushions,
carpeted chassis cross members, a clever offset wood-rim steering wheel which
improves leg room, bonnet stays and a posh luggage carrier with side screen
stowage. The bill for this lot amounted to £4,700.
As can be seen, a fitted suitcase has been added which has its
own mohair waterproof cover and a bill on file lists a short-shift conversion
for the gearbox and pedal extensions (removable).
The car was then regularly used, including numerous Morgan Club
events over the country, although discrete chrome GB badges hint at
international travel too.
The service book is
well stamped with nine stamps to 17,154 miles in April 2015. John Gill and Phil
Ledgerwood, both Morgan appointed dealers handled most, with subsequent
servicing being handled by G C Motors in Retford.
Its last MOT
expired in April 2019, the car having covered fewer than 19,000 miles to
date.
Since then, the car has been in quality
garage storage due to health issues. Since arrival onsite we have not started
it, although it was running when it was last used. Bidders are advised that the
radiator grill and mesh backing have been removed for some purpose – these are
resting in place for the photos.
This car has
clearly been extremely well cared for and as far as we know should only need a
good service before it comes back into play. Its comprehensive specification and
careful ownership makes for the perfect foray into Morgan ownership – which
seems to have become so exclusive now that the traditional chassis is no longer
available and prices have gone through the roof...
