Early pre-HE V12 coupe with vinyl roof pulled
out of a garage after 17 years requiring restoration; showing just 64,758
miles - worthy project
Dating from March 1977 this early pre-HE XJ-S
coupe features the 5.3 litre V12 engine driving the rear wheels through
automatic transmission (unclear if its the Borg Warner Model 12 auto 'box, or
the GM Turbo-Hyrdamatic 400 transmission given the car dates from the
change-over point in early '77). Finished in red with black vinyl roof the
car shouts late 70's and is aching to be restored, a worthy project given its
the early and late model cars fetching the most money.
Pulled out of
hibernation in the last couple of months by the same South Hereford garage that
placed it carefully in the garage of the now deceased former
owner some 17 years ago following works documented on two invoices which
included collection of the car fitment of new spark plugs and return of the
car back in January 2004. Then later in March of 2004 at 64,750 miles, its
last outing, for a £1,275 spend on a new battery, new steering rack and track
rod ends, stripping of the front and rear brakes, new pads, new rubbers to the
front shocks, repair of the headlamp dip switch, repair and fabrication of new
sections for the OS sill and floor with underside waxoil, repair to a blowing
exhaust and submission for MOT.
The car was then returned, where it
remained unusued until earlier this year, just 8 miles covered since this work
was undertaken 17 years ago. The interior is finished in black and bar the
usual sagging headlining is acceptable with good scope to recondition. The boot
floor looks okay and under the bonnet dusty but all present and correct.
The bodywork shows signs of decay from so many years sat but by no means beyond
repair. No attempt has been made to turn or start the engine given its
been sat idle for so long and we'd recommend a thorough check over and major
service with fresh fuel before any attempt is made.
In addition to the 2
invoices on file we have only the V5C showing 11 former keepers to the current
who pulled it out of storage following the demise of the owner who was custodian
since 1994. A quick check online shows the car has not been taxed since
1997 further confirming the lack of use prior to the works undertaken in
2004.
A worthy project that rolls freely making transport easier for the
buyer. Offered here at No Reserve, the highest bid takes it away.
