Description
1963 Daimler Dart SP250
Good usable car in an
unrestored state that's seen regular use since new; long term ownership since
1977 with huge history back to early 70s
Dating from December 1963 this Daimler Dart should be
a C-spec car given its production date, which included some minor
improvements over the earlier B-spec introduced in 1960.
In the current ownership from 1977 until just
earlier this year (when it passed to the power-of-attorney) the disposal is
unfortunately a forced sale due to ill-health. The Dart was in regular use by
its engineer owner until 2017 when ill-health curtailed this. It has been
fastidiously maintained with a few subtle upgrades to the car including to the
steering. Bidders may also spot the tow hitch at the rear, used to tow a small
VSCC race car to meets across the UK. The car has also been enjoyed abroad on
several European driving holidays.
The history file includes the current V5C, copy old V5
confirming ownership for 44 years, at least 28 old MOTs, old style V5 suggesting
just one previous keeper from 1977 and copy original buff log book which is
difficult to make out, but looks like there could be one owner prior to that
from new. The old log-books also confirm the car to be dark blue and date from
December ’63.
A mountain of invoices are present which are too numerous
to go through here, but invoices of note include £600 spent on a rebuilt rear
axle in 2001, a full interior re-trim in October 1997 costing £1,548, new
cylinder head gasket and piston ring set purchased in April 1996 costing £189
with another head gasket set purchased in April 2006. The ream of invoices dates
back to at least 1972 with a host of correspondence, letters, faxes and the like
between owner and parts/service suppliers for works undertaken and for quotes.
Looking at the MOTs on file, which date back to the Spring
of 1977, its clear the car wa used intensively, showing 86,109 miles in March
1977 rising to 90,019 in 1978 then rolling over the following year to 01567
miles which rises steadily over the years to 38,051 miles in 1992, to 55,620
miles in July 2000 and on to the current reading of 90,001 suggesting a total
mileage of 190,001 – proof that these are very usable cars. The
car was treated to a respray a few years ago, although it does not look to have
been done very well with micro-blistering in evidence across the majority of the
car.
Sat on TR6 wheels the car looks good and muscular with a
smart black mohair roof and a re-trimmed interior in great order. Starting
promptly, the car runs well sounding beefy with a modicum of throttle and was
driven some 60 miles to the sale. Now of course Tax and MOT exempt, the last MOT
expired in July 2018 with no advisories and with only 500 miles covered since.
It is offered here at a competitive estimate to reflect the mileage and
paintwork issues.
