The Austin Seven has lent itself to tuning and competition since its inception in 1922....forming the genesis of Lotus, McLaren Mallock to name but a few...

In the '50s and '60s, retired Austins were rebodied with all number of aftermarket alternatives, from MG lookalikes in aluminium to glassfibre Ferrariesque creations.

The hobby has continued, with Roach Manufacturing continuing to offer a range of attractive RTC bodies in aluminium, the majority being fitted on LWB chassis - of with there are plenty still around.

This car started life in 1934, probably as a saloon, morphing into a sporty two-seater some time over the last 20 years or so. It has been well built, with aluminium wings and coachwork and fitted with a hot engine.

The chassis was prepared with a dropped sports front axle, located laterally and semi-Girling front brakes.

Photos on file show that it has been fitted with a 'splash fed' Phoenix crank, Honda pistons, big valve block, Ricardo alloy head, SU carburettor and tubular manifold - an engine to this spec costing pretty much the estimate of this car today if you were to commission it yourself. The motor was prepared and assembled by Ian Bancroft to fast road spec with a warm camshaft.

The ensemble has not been running for a while, but being an Austin Seven should fire up with a bit of tinkering and will provide its new owner with all the benefits these amazing little cars can deliver - fun, cheap running and enthusiastic like-minded owners. Get involved....
