1994 Peugeot 106 Rallye
Tidy, increasingly
rare and collectible '90s lightweight hot hatch with proven dynamics, revvy
1.3 engine and huge grin factor
Dating from May 1994 this
diminutive '90s Hot Hatch is all about a revvy 1.3 litre engine that loves to be
worked and a lightweight, no frills approach to the car, trim and
spec.
Finished in white with the trademark red script with red, blue
and yellow streak on the rear corner stating '106 Rallye', white steel wheels
and simple spec these cars have become something of a cult akin to the 205
GTi with prices climbing constantly and good cars hard to find. Our vendor
has owned the car twice, regretting selling it a few years ago he scoured the
internet to find it and buy it back, such was his lust to buy one he knew to be
good. The passion has since waned a little with lots of other projects on the
go, so it is now time for a second parting.
The history file includes the
V5C, service book with 5 old stamps, 15 old MOTs backing up the mileage of
138,807 and current MOT valid until August 2021 with no advisories recorded and
a file of invoices for works undertaken to keep the 69bhp steed in rude
health. We find an invoice dated August 2018 for refurbishment of the rear
axle costing £205, a replacement pair of Bilstein B4 front shocks costing £63 in
July 2019, new rear beam poly bushes costing £38 in January 2020, a pair of new
rear Bilstein B$ shocks for £59 in April 2019 along with other works such as new
front and rear brakes, with new callipers and drums, uprated brake hoses, new
track rod ends, top mounts, new radiator and a 2inch Scorpion exhaust with
4-2-1 Piper manifold that's been heat wrapped.
A well-sorted little car
in good usable order that makes a revvy, snorty sound with surprising
acceleration and oodles of grip that would surprise many supposedly faster and
more expensive modern cars on the twisty bits.
