1998 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor
(R170)
Pre-facelift supercharged 2 owner example showing
just 88,764 miles with black leather and automatic
transmission
Dating from October 1998 this pre-facelift R170 series
SLK features the supercharged (Kompressor) 2.3 litre M111.973 series
four-cylinder engine which produces here, 190bhp and 280NM of torque, enough to
blast this little 2-seat roadster to 60mph in just 7.4 seconds - pretty quick
compared to its competition back at its launch in '96, and still fast enough to
be thoroughly enjoyable some 25 years (goodness!) later. With its innovative and
neatly folding metal roof, which has been copied industry wide now its a neat
little package with comfortable cabin, here featuring full black leather and
useful boot even with the roof down.
Finished in brilliant silver, and
sat on standard spec 7-spoke 16inch alloy wheels the car looks good with
contrasting heated black leather seats, sporty carbon style trim with
automatic 5-speed 'box, electric windows, mirrors, dual zone automatic climate
control with AC, traction control, Mercedes Audi 10 radio/CD player, slide
out cup holder/oddments draw and fully automatic roof.
Showing just under
90,000 miles covered by few owners, the current keeper since June
2014, the car presents well with bright paintwork and tidy interior bar some
wear to the centre console finish typical of this model. We did note at the time
of photographing the coolant level light was on as was the BAS/ASR (brake
assist/traction control) light usuallyindicating a fault with an ABS/speed
sensor on a wheel. The roof worked as it should with some signs of sag to
the head-lining bar these niggles the car looks good value at the suggested
guide considering its low owners and modest mileage.
Within the history
file we find the V5C, owner's pack and service book revealing 6 stamps all by
Mercedes Benz main dealers, the last in March 2007 at 52,999 miles. In
addition, we find 6 old MOT certificates and current valid until December 2021
without advisory. A quick look at the MOT history shows the car has
covered little more than 1,100 miles in the last 5 years. We only have 1 key for
the car, which is the key-card style key for keyless entry which contains a slim
physical key within the case for the ignition.
