Description
1921 Zenith Gradua Sporting Model C
Purchased
by our vendor in 1974 and fully restored- used regularly ever since; full
acetylene lighting with generator, horn, carrier and large leather tool
compartment; 26 x 3in rear tyre with good tread; 7ft link belt recently renewed;
the original magneto fitted has been recently serviced; a few age related marks
but otherwise in impressive condition
Zenith
achieved prominence in hill climbs before 1914 when regulations barred any
machine fitted with other than a 2 or 3 speed gear. This was a tacit admission
of the superiority of their variable gear over that of other competitors and
‘barred’ was included across their name bade as an advertisement. Much of their
competition success was gained using the powerful 8HP 1,000cc JAP engines but
this machine of 5HP, 662cc is much lighter and more suitable for touring
purposes.
The file for
this machine includes the original invoice when our vendor bought it in 1974 and
a detailed log of the restoration as well as its many and various
excursions. Used regularly since, the vendor reports that it performs at ‘a
comfortable cruising speed of 45mph'.
A very
rare opportunity indeed.
