1981 MGB Roadster
Last-of-the-line MGB
in cracking order throughout; over £6,500 spent on improvements; new
interior; Mohair hood; Minilite-style alloys; just serviced; looks great in
Snapdragon Yellow
Built just four months before production finally came to
an end after a hugely successful 18-year run, this gorgeous MGB Roadster comes
with a Heritage Certificate showing that it left the factory in June 1980 en
route to distributors Bewac Ltd of Coventry. Finished in Snapdragon Yellow with
a silver/grey cloth interior it had overdrive and Rostyle wheels.
It had three owners up until 2014 when it was acquired by
the Chairman of the Devon branch of the MGOC who promptly set about a thorough
refurbishment as detailed in many invoices on file, the intention being to
preserve as much originality as possible.
It seems that dozens of components were renewed – hood;
hood frame; tyres; Minilite-style alloys; window rubbers; speedo cable; fuel
tank sender unit; bonnet soundproofing; badges; mirrors; door catches – the list
goes on and on. The engine was decoked and fitted with new gaskets; stud bolts;
water pump; filters; hoses; fan belt; gaskets; rocker cover; carburettor parts
etc. A quick tot up shows that over £3,000 was spent on parts alone.
Our vendor acquired the car in 2020 and has improved it
still further, fitting a complete new interior including carpets; underfelt;
sound proofing; door cards; crackle-finish dashboard; brand new leather seats;
wood-rim steering wheel; mohair hood, hood cover and tonneau cover. He also had
it thoroughly serviced with various new parts, the invoices for all this lot
coming to some £3,500.
As you can see in the photos, the car is now in sparkling
condition throughout and comes with a dozen old MOTs to show that the indicated
mileage of 86,200 is correct, the current MOT running until September 2021 with
no advisories recorded. Altogether, a cracking MG all round.
