1979 MGB GT
Extensively restored in 2007 and
only 4,000 miles since; new interior; working overdrive; Britax sunroof;
lowering kit; many new parts; jump in and go!
As the Heritage Certificate confirms, this MGB GT was
built in February 1979 and was supplied new via Wadham Stringer of Southampton
to its first owner in June of that year. An overdrive model, it was originally
Inca Yellow with a silver/grey interior.
In 2007 the car was treated to a major restoration which
included four new wings, inner and outer sills, front valance, doors, floor pan
sections, repaint etc. The engine and overdrive gearbox were stripped and
rebuilt as required with new gaskets, hoses, oil seals, clutch kit etc. The
brakes and suspension were all fully rebuilt with many new parts, as was the
propshaft and rear axle. The radiator was renewed along with the heater matrix
and the Kenlowe fan serviced.
Our vendor acquired the car in 2018 and has improved it
still further as detailed in many invoices on file. New mechanical parts fitted
during the last three years include; cylinder head, bottom end and rocker
gaskets; carburettor service kit; clutch master cylinder; front wishbone bushes;
rear leaf spring rubbers and check straps; front and rear lowering kit; fan
belt; oil filter; spark plugs; fuel filter; front brake discs, pads and
calipers; track rod ends etc.
New trim parts fitted include: front seat foams and back
cards; front and rear seat covers; carpet set; door seals; windscreen wipers;
stainless steel fuel cap; treadplates; footwell mats; embossed metal front and
rear number plates with stainless steel carriers; stainless steel wheel trims
and centre caps etc.
Basically everything on this car has been replaced or
refurbished as necessary, the only thing that lets the side down being some
areas of corrosion appearing around the corners of the front windscreen and a
tear to the headlining, as show in the photos. Fitted with a Britax Sunway roof
and working overdrive, it also comes with a useful box of spares, the original
steering wheel, a tailored indoor car cover, Haynes workshop manual and a period
sales brochure.
Being offered here at a fraction of the costs lavished
upon it to date, it has been starting promptly and running well as we have moved
it around on site with good 60psi oil pressure and is now MOT exempt, the last
ticket having expired in October 2018 with no advisories since when it has
barely covered 100 miles. In fact it has only covered around 4,000 miles since
the 2007 restoration was completed so we do hope that the fortunate new owner
will actually get out there and drive it!
