Description
1994 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 (993)
Current
ownership for the last 25 years; under 33,000 miles from new; 22 main dealer
service stamps; 6-speed manual; an original and unmolested non-varioram
example; superb opportunity
With its
massively wide rear haunches, Coke-bottle hips and oval exhausts, the 993 is
considered by many to be the best looking 911 of all time. Launched in 1993 and
remaining in production until 1998, it was the last Porsche to feature an
air-cooled engine and the last to retain the classic 911 silhouette – giving it
a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts.
The good
looks continued inside with a re-designed interior featuring new seats, better
heating and ventilation and improved dashboard fabrics. Airbags were also fitted
as standard. More than just a pretty face, it was also the first 911 to handle
benignly on the limit thanks to its wider track and the adoption of an all-alloy
multi-arm rear suspension attached to an all-alloy subframe.
Performance
from the 272bhp 3.6-litre flat-six engine was suitably authoritative, crushing
the 0-60 time in just 5.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 168mph. The new
engine featured lavish use of exotic metals, such as magnesium for the fan
housing, and a strengthened camshaft along with lighter pistons – it also
sounded magnificent with a spine-tingling metallic bark. A sophisticated Bosch
ignition system was employed to keep the engine running as sweetly as its makers
intended. Built like the proverbial brick outhouse, it was also utterly
dependable and was one of the very few supercars that you could genuinely use
every day.
Dating
from August 1995, this earlier, pre-varioram 993 Carrera 2 comes with the
desirable six-speed manual gearbox and is finished in Polar Silver with a grey
hide interior.
Purchased
from Evans Halshaw in Aldridge, the V5C states that it has had just three owners
in total, although a check on Experian throws up just one previous recorded
keeper, the date of change taking place when our vendor acquired it way back in
April 1996 – a period of some 27 years. At this time, it had covered only
11,000 miles.
The
service books (there are two, the first being full to bursting) show no fewer
than 23 service stamps – all main dealer plus evidence of two more services that
have not been stamped - plus seven brake fluid changes, five Long-Life Guarantee
report stamps and four airbag checks. It appears to have missed out on a dealer
service in 1995 and ’96 and it hasn’t had one this year, its last taking place
in 2020 at 32,847miles, just 100 miles ago!
It was
factory ordered with a Blaupunkt Bremen radio (now fitted with a Sony CD
player), comfort spec seats with electric height adjustment, 17” wheels, a rear
wiper and a sun-moon-roof.
We are
advised that it was subject to a factory recall for clutch work – the vendor
being told he was the proud owner of a new ceramic clutch by the dealer at the
time but has no evidence to support this.
The
vendor, after having the car serviced each year would use it for a short time,
before parking it up for a while, only to repeat the process the following
year.
There are
a few minor scuffs commensurate with its age and very modest mileage, the odd
stone chip and a grazed wheel, but it remains in unadulterated condition and is
certainly one of the lowest mileage ones we have encountered, the odometer still
reading under 33,000 miles from new.
There are
no fewer than 22 MOTs on file, its most recent expiring in July 2022 with just
four advisories for old tyres – OK, so it could do with some new
boots.
The file
includes the full book pack in its leather folder, accessories leaflets for the
immobiliser, manual, two service books, original key fob and an original
brochure for the car. There are also two sets of keys.
Fastidiously
maintained and lovingly owned, this low mileage 993 manual offers what is for
many, a stunning example of the ultimate iteration of the iconic 911 Porsche.
It’s time to raid the piggy bank.
