1933 Austin Seven RP Box Saloon
From a
deceased estate; high quality restoration nearing completion; the makings of a
very smart Seven indeed
As a document from
the Somerset County Record Office confirms, this Austin 7 RP Box Saloon was
first registered to HH Lock of Yeovil on 30th March 1933 with the
number YD 6758 which remains on the car to this day. A green logbook shows that
it was still in Somerset in 1961.
The current owner acquired the car as a
restoration project on eBay in 2010 for the sum of £1,400, by which time it was
up in County Durham. Over the next few years he set about a concours-standard
restoration which was sadly never completed.
As you can see in the
photos, most of the hard work has been done and the car has the makings of a
very fine specimen indeed. The bodywork and chassis have been restored to a very
high standard and the whole car expertly repainted in black. The headlamps and
radiator surround have been rechromed and a new radiator fitted. The wheels,
tyres and exhaust are also new and we are told that the engine has been checked
over and has good compression.
A new reproduction set of rubber floor
mats are present, along with all the dash instruments and an armoured wiring
kit. Patterns and fitting instructions for the sliding roof system are also
included. In fact it seems that most of the major parts required to finish the
car are present inside the vehicle but we have not unpacked them all to see
exactly what is there so bidders are advised to come and see it for
themselves.
No doubt a few minor bits and bobs will still need to be
sourced but these are all readily available from the many specialists that serve
this model, as evidenced by reams of parts lists and prices in the history file
for this car. An Austin Seven handbook is also present.
On offer here
from a deceased estate, this potentially gorgeous Box Saloon should keep someone
gainfully employed over the coming winter months and look good as new when
completed.
