1984 Mercedes-Benz 280 CE Auto

Reserve
Parked up in storage for at least five years; in
need of recommissioning
Mercedes
launched its W123 range to huge acclaim in 1976. Most handsome of all were the
230CE and 280CE coupes, based on a shortened W123 saloon platform and with
elegant pillarless side windows.
While
the 230CE made do with a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine which produced around
130bhp, the 280CE had a creamy smooth fuel-injected 2.8-litre straight-six which
produced an impressive 180bhp and had a top speed of 125mph. It sold steadily
until it was finally replaced by the W124 range in
1985.
This
car, which shows 96,100 miles on the clock, has not been used in anger for some
time. The last MOT took place in 2016 but we understand it has been stored off
the road ever since.
The
photographs reflect the general condition of the car well and it is obvious that
it needs renovation, although it does run and drive. For the age of the car, the
interior is not too bad but needs a good clean up while externally, there are
obvious rust issues and paintwork that needs attention.
Offered
here with no reserve so the highest bidder will take it home, they will
have the opportunity to transform the car into the handsome beast that it once
was.
Note
that at the time of writing, we have no paperwork for the car apart from a
photocopy of the V5C so one may need to apply for a new one. Please check with
the office if the paperwork has arrived.
