1987 Ford Capri 2.8i MkIII

With our long term owner since 2002; much time and money spent on useful restorative works to make into an attractive example showing 72,096 miles

Dating from April 1987 this late model Capri MkIII 2.8 injection is finished in red and looks well, sat upon its attractive 7-spoke 13-inch alloy wheels. Inside, we find period correct half grey leather and cloth Recaro seats, wind-up windows, heated rear screen, manual mirrors, period radio cassette and manual transmission.

Showing just 72,097 miles, the car presents well having been treated to a bare metal, glass-out respray completed in September 2019 by our long-term owner/vendor with new windscreen, overhaul of the braking system with £1,100 of new parts plus new water pump, thermostat housing and belts fitted in September 2020 with the underbody also wax-oil protected at this time.

The interior looks to be largely original and untouched, with some typical signs of age/use to the driver’s seat bolster, cracking to the dash top and sunroof interior trim missing (See images. Original covering is in the boot). The vendor pointed out the tailgate struts are weak and has supplied replacement items along with a replacement output shaft seal for a minor gearbox oil leak and part for another minor leak on an oil pipe in the engine bay (block to oil pressure gauge). The vendor has also highlighted some minor cosmetic bits on the car he was unhappy with following the re-spray detailed in his notes on file.

The history file includes a host of documentation charting our long-term owner’s tenure with supporting bills for much of the work he has carried out including an impressive 25 old MOTs dating back to 1992 which look to support the cars indicated mileage of 72,097. In addition, we find a couple of purchase invoices dated October 1998 and August 2002 at 61,155 miles (to our vendor), SORN docs, the current MOT which expires late September 2021 with 1 advisory noted for the oil leak mentioned, a selection of Capri manuals old style V5 and current V5C showing just 6 previous keepers to the current.

Ready to be enjoyed, our long term vendor has ploughed much time and money into this ever-so-cool 80’s coupe and given recent price hikes it looks a mightily enticing prospect at the guide price.
