Description
1965 Austin 5-Ton Tipper (WFK100)
Two owners
from new; restored through the 90's by the owner; little recent use; spare
gearbox in the back; £700 spent on new tyres when MOT'd in
2016
Dating from April 1965 this old workhorse
Austin 5-Ton Tipper comes to us in WFK100 form with six-cylinder BMC diesel
engine which we believe to be the 311.5cu in (5.1 litre) 51J version
featuring a robust 7-bearing crankshaft driving the rear wheels via 4-speed
manual transmission. It has sufficient power to lug considerable loads in
the 5cubic yard capacity tipper back. A note on file from the vendor tells of
the truck hauling 6 tons of material up many Welsh mountain roads without
breaking a sweat.
In good order for its age, the truck was restored by
our long term owner/operator through the 90’s after 35 years faithful service to
him through his business. Since this time, the truck has seen only limited use
attending some local shows only, spending most of its time garaged at the
vendor’s Newport home. Showing some signs of its age and older restoration,
there is scope to improve - the interior trim particularly tired and worn under
the seat covers and foot steps looking tired as with some localised areas of
paint, as pictured.
The tipper back (works as it should according to a
note on file from the vendor) includes a spare gearbox, new clutch and
diesel filter with the truck being treated to new tyres at MOT in 2016. The
history file includes the V5C showing just 1 owner, although 2 older V5s on file
shows the company name before transfer to the vendor’s name although very
similar and of the same address.
In addition, we have a box containing
workshop manual, parts lists and trio of vehicle inspection plating certificates
along with 5 old MOTs the last in 2017, 3 hand-books and period sales
brochure.
A rare and interesting truck which starts, runs and drives with
great vintage and classic show appeal.
