1974 Triumph Stag
Just 4,000 miles on
rebuilt engine; automatic gearbox; for recommissioning following a period in
storage
This bright red Stag was acquired by the vendor in 2013 in
running order. A previous owner had already researched its history, which
includes multiple owners over the years, with most of their details recorded in
the history file.
Retaining its original 3.0-litre V8, the car was first
registered to a doctor in London on 1st January 1974, and spent some years in
the big city before heading for rural Herefordshire in 2013 via Essex and the
Home Counties.
Bills on file indicate major work in 1998 - at 90,325.
This included a new hood, seat covers, wiring loom, radiator and rebuilt carbs.
In 2005, James Paddock Ltd supplied a new set of pistons, big end bearings,
timing chains and sprockets etc, confirming a major engine overhaul took place -
supported by photos of the rebuilt unit on an engine stand. At this time, the
recorded mileage had just tipped over the 100,000 mark, showing as 101,343
miles on the July 2005 MOT. Since then, the car has covered barely 4,000
miles.
The comprehensive history file also includes a handbook and two
workshop manuals.
It was last MOT'd in 2014, the car getting some light
exercise before being put away in the garage, the intention being to spend some
time on it to bring back to former glory. As is so often the case, too many
other projects on the go and now, a pending house move has led to the Stag being
offered for sale. As can be seen, it will need to be recommissioned for future
enjoyment.
There are a few cosmetic jobs to be done, but this car
represents a basically sound Stag, complete with hard top. The correct
3.0-litre V8 engine has covered few miles since a comprehensive rebuild and
the hood, although replaced some 23 years ago has barely seen the light of
day.
Now that the nights are drawing in, a few cosy evenings in the
workshop should have it up and running and looking good in time for
Spring.
