1938 Morris Eight Saloon
Honest four door
saloon showing a healthy dose of patina; runs and drives
Available
as a two or four-seat tourer and a two or four-door saloon, the Morris Eight was
capable of 60mph and 40mpg from its 23.5bhp 918cc side-valve engine, driving
through a three-speed box with synchromesh on the top two gears. It also
benefited from hydraulic brakes and a good level of equipment - all this for the
princely sum of just £120 brand new!
Presented
here is one of the four door saloons which appears to be fitted with a
handy sliding roof, although we have not managed to get it open. The body
is bumped a little, crazed and cracked here and there but seems pretty solid,
with the doors closing nicely with a satisfying clunk.
Our vendor
has not had it long and although there are six other recorded keepers going back
to 1995, there are sure to have been more prior to that since it was first
registered in March 1938.
We
understand the car does run and drive, but it ran out of petrol shortly
after arrival. It has the makings of a nice usable example which would
respond well to some simple cleaning and
servicing.
