Just two lady owners and 89,000 miles from new

Supplied new in October 1998, this pre-face-lift example of the popular R170 series SLK comes fitted with the potent supercharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine developing 193bhp, offering V6 performance but with 4-pot economy. The official figures were 0-60 in 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 149mph, driving through 5-speed automatic transmission with Winter and Sport modes.

It has had just two lady owners from new, the current since 2014, and has covered 89,160 miles to date with a partial service history comprising six Mercedes main agent stamps in the book, the last at 52,999 miles in March 2007. In July this year it was treated to a new battery and a new set of auxiliary drive belts. A new set of rear tyres have also been recently fitted.

Finished in Brilliant Silver with a black leather interior, heated front seats and carbon-effect trim, it rides on 7-spoke alloy wheels and features the ingenious electrically operated folding metal roof which always amazes onlookers and still works perfectly. Other features include electric windows and door mirrors, dual zone automatic climate control with AC, traction control, Mercedes radio/CD player and slide-out cup holder/oddments drawer.

As you can see in the photos, it is in generally good condition with no signs of rust and no warning lights on the dash. The only faults we noted were a few stone chips on the driver’s door, some wear to the finish on the centre console, some damage to the plastic handbrake shroud and some sagging of the headlining. There is only one key for the car, the key-card style remote for keyless entry which contains a slim physical key within the card – no big deal as you can lock and unlock everything perfectly well.

Driven some 50 miles to the sale, it has been starting promptly and running nicely as we have moved it around on site. The current MOT runs to 16^th December 2021 with no advisories recorded while 8 old MOTs show that the car has only covered some 5,000 miles since 2013. It is on offer here at no reserve so the best bid takes it home.
