1972 MGB Roadster
Bare metal repaint in 2019;
engine rebuilt; new rear suspension; large history file; very smart indeed
First registered in April 1972, this lovely MGB Roadster
has been in the current ownership since 2017 and comes with a large history file
extending back to the late 1980s to show that it has been very well looked after
for the last 30 years or more.
Invoices show that it had a full engine rebuild in 1991
with new pistons and bearings, reground crank etc, while another invoice shows
that the big end bearings were replaced again in 2017 along with the front and
rear crankshaft oil seals and a new clutch assembly. A reconditioned rear axle
was fitted in 2016 along with new door locks, oil cooler pipes, overdrive switch
etc.
The bodywork had been restored back in the late 1980s with
new sills, wings, doors, chassis legs etc. (documents suggesting that it was
then entered into a concours event in 1990) but come 2019 and it was restored
again and treated to a bare metal repaint in Tartan Red by DWW Classic Car
Restorations of Staffs which cost £4,250.
More recently, in June 2021 it had new rear parabolic
springs, new Gaz shock absorbers and new polybushes. The following month it had
a new head gasket set, new overdrive gaskets, a good tune-up and a new rear
exhaust section. As you can see in the photos, it is now very smart indeed and
rides on Minilite-style alloys shod with a matching set of Uniroyal tyres.
Although it no longer needs one, it has an MOT until June
2022 with no advisories recorded and has been running beautifully as we have
moved it around on site with good 60psi oil pressure.
