Supplied new by Dr. Ing.H.C.F. Porsche of
Stuttgart in March 2002 this eye catching 986 series Boxster S features the
range topping 3.2 litre flat six engine driving the rear wheels via 6-speed
manual transmission and is finished in desirable Cobalt Blue Metallic (L3C8)
with contrasting Black Mohair hood and rides on a set of attractive 18inch split
rim Porsche Sport Design staggered fitment 7J and 8.5J alloy wheels (XRL). It
was produced at the Valmet factory in Finland (502).
The options code
sticker both under the bonnet and inside the service book reveal the car to have
quite an extensive (and no doubt expensive) options list including - Arctic
silver centre console (XJB), Arctic silver central bracket (XKW), Arctic silver
instrument surround (XKX), roll-over bar painted in exterior body colour (XMK),
Arctic silver dashboard trim strip (XNY), Porsche crest embossed head rest
(XSC), gear lever knob with aluminium top (X97) and handbrake lever with
aluminium inlay (X98).
The spec list goes on to include, stronger battery
(197), automatic anti dazzle rear view mirror and rain sensor (265), automatic
anti dazzle door mirrors (266), head lamp washer (288), 8-way electric seat left
and right (437 & 438), radio preparation (441), wheel caps with coloured
Porsche crest (446), PSM – Porsche Stability Management (476), Lumbar support
RHS (513), driver’s seat memory (538), wind deflector (551), top-tinted
windscreen (567), activated charcoal filter (571), automatic air conditioning
(573), storage box inc. speakers (584), lumbar support LHS (586), Litronic
(Xenon) headlights (601), PCM Porsche Communication Management screen with
navigation, telephone, radio & cassette player (662), preparation for CD
changer (689), leather door and dash panels (981), leather seats (983) in
black.
Quite the spec, and obviously a well loved car having covered an
indicated 90,259 miles by its six former keepers and current, our vendor
who has enjoyed the car over the summer for jollies and jaunts with the roof
down. The history file for this late, pre-facelift 986 includes the V5C, owner’s
pack and service book revealing 12 stamps, the last in July 2016 at 81,405 miles
plus a further 2 for brake fluid, 2 for long life condition reports and 1 for an
air bag check in 2006.
Furthermore, in a separate folder we find a tome
of old invoices for parts and maintenance plus 11 old MOTs and a purchase
invoice plus sales listing dated 2011 when the car had covered 66,429 miles and
cost £11,995. Invoices of particular note include a replacement black hood with
glass rear screen in May 2010 at a cost of £775, clutch kit and air flow meter
in March 2010 at 57,126 miles costing £1,376, replacement RMS and intermediate
shaft seals in January 2011 at 57,590 miles by NineX Motorsport of Maidenhead at
a cost of £1,141, a new alternator in 2012 and more recently replacement brakes
in April 2019 and brand new pair of new Bridgestone Potenza rear
tyres have just been fitted.
Presenting well and looking the part, the
car has worn its age and miles well with few marks to the body and interior.
Starting promptly as we moved it around for these shots and video the only
foible we noted was an exhaust tinkle sounding like a loose heat shield or
clamp, readily rectified no doubt but we’d prefer you to make your own minds
up.
That aside, the car looks ready to be enjoyed with an MOT valid until
September 2022 with just one advisory noted for damage to the windscreen – this
has since been replaced under the vendor’s car insurance.
