Nice project that runs and drives; front discs; SU carb; new carpets supplied but not fitted; budget classic motoring

In 1956, Austin introduced the A35, an updated version of the A30 with a larger rear window, painted grille and indicators replacing the old semaphores. Under the bonnet the 803cc engine was replaced by the 948cc A-Series mated to a new gearbox with remote change. It was enough to continue the strong sales until the arrival of the all new A40 in 1959. Autocar tests showed a top speed of 72mph, with 0-60mph taking 30 seconds. Fuel consumption was a modest 41.5 mpg.

This shabby-chic example dates from 1958 and has been with the current owner since 2015. A collector of multiple things, he has decided that he is never going to get round to the jobs list on this one so has decided it must go - at No Reserve too so the best bid buys the car...

Sporting a workmanlike brush paintjob, it is not going to win any concours events, but it has many virtues. The body is pretty solid and the car runs, drives and stops, although as with all things, could do with a thorough going over before venturing out to the shops.

A previous owner has upgraded the engine with an SU carburettor and three branch inlet manifold, a disc brake conversion up front and a set of razzy alloys. Also included is a new carpet set, yet to be fitted, their absence from the footwells showing the floors to be in a reasonable state too.

Offering proper classic motoring on a budget, this A35 has lots of appeal.
