1980 MGB GT
Late model GT from long term
33-year lady ownership with 20 service stamps; 26 old MOTs and recent £3,800
spend
Supplied new by Howells of Llandeilo in
February 1980, this jolly and appealing late model BGT is finished in yellow
with grey cloth interior and sits on its original black and silver Rostyle steel
wheels with Webasto sunroof. It wears its period correct black rubber bumpers
which is nice, given so many have been backdated to chrome.
The ‘GT looks
to have had just 2-owners from new according to Experian, but we suspect that it
might be 3 given there is a purchase invoice from Steels of Hereford dated 1984
at 1,600 miles. The current owner, a lady, has cherished the car since June
1988 after a transfer to her from her husband, keeping the car in good order
throughout.
Within the history file, we find the V5C, original handbook
and service passport revealing some 20 stamps showing the car has been looked
after in Herefordshire since its 2nd stamp in June 1984. The last 11
stamps are all by the same garage in Kington from August 1990 at 13,890 miles to
the last stamp in August 2003 at 50,881 miles with documented
maintenance history since then. The car currently reads 81,193 miles –
believed correct, backed up by the service book and MOTs on file plus its
low-owner status.
There are 26 old MOTs on file which date from 1992 at
28,337 miles to 2017 at 79,156 miles plus the current, although now exempt,
which is valid until April 2022 with no advisories recorded. In addition, we
find a selection of invoices which include a bill for conversion of the head to
take unleaded fuel and new head gasket at a cost of £420 in February 2007 and a
spend of some £3,800 in April 2021 on a replacement front wing, sills repairs,
chassis rails, rear inner wings, OS and NS jacking points, door skins and
subsequent repaint plus refurb and powder coating of the wheels.
As a
result, the car looks and feels fresh. The only thing we noted was the driver’s
seat base felt like it could do with replacing having lost some of its support
aspect, but bar that it looks a very nice car at sensible money with a
good history. Buyers please note, the car was recorded Category-C back in
December 2005.
