1998 Porsche Boxster (986)

Reserve
Smart earlier example in 'launch colours'
silver with extended burgundy leather interior; 2.5 flat six with manual 'box
supplied new to Guernsey where its remained until recently
Supplied by Five Oaks OPC of the Channel Islands to its first owners
in Guernsey in November 1998, this earlier 986 series Boxster has the
mid-mounted 2.5 litre water-cooled flat-six engine rated at 204bhp which, mated
to a 5-speed manual transmission, gives it sufficient shove to hit 60mph in 6.9
seconds with a top speed of 149mph, and a surprisingly acceptable 32mpg of fuel
economy.
Ordered by its first owner in the launch colours of Arctic
Silver (L92U) with Boxster Red leather (MA) its option list includes Sports
suspension (030), automatically dimming interior mirror (XE3), carbon door
handles (XTE), seat heating (LH & RH 139 & 340), traction control/ASR
(222), traction control/ABD (224), 8-way electrical seats with driver memory
(437, 438 & 538), wind deflector (551), side airbags (563), automatic
air-conditioning (573), front centre console (581), storage box on engine cover
(584), park-assist rear parking sensors (635), Becker Porsche CD radio CDR-22
(695), leather dashboard and door panels (981) and leather seats (983) plus the
desirable 09981 and 09991 options which suggest the car was ordered with
additional bespoke options.
It has covered just 78,899 miles in the hands of
four owners (3 on Guernsey, 1 in the UK), with an excellent early service
history comprising 12 stamps in the book, the first 9 all at the Porsche main
dealer in Guernsey, Five Oaks. We also find a further 15 stamps for brake fluid
changes, condition reports and air bag system checks. It was last serviced in
May 2019 at 78,095 miles by Sapphire Auto services of Andover but has seen
little recent use due to the pandemic and its restrictions.
The car
presents well, the paintwork appearing in good condition, with but a few
blemishes as pictured. The 16" original alloy wheels look in good order, the
tyres all Porsche approved N-rated Bridgestones with good tread but with a few
perishing cracks noted on the fresh MOT certificate, which also advised slight
play in the front anti roll bar drop link ball joints valid until November 2022.
In addition we find the V5C, copy old Guernsey log book, book pack, few invoices
for historic works and 1 old MOT.
The hood fabric looks to have been
replaced with the upgraded heated glass rear screen instead of the standard
plastic rear window, which have a tendency to crack and discolour with
age.
The Boxster was 25 years old in 2021, and is now recognised as a
bona fide classic, and the car that probably saved Porsche from bankruptcy in
the late 1990’s. With this smart looking example on sale at No Reserve, this is
a great opportunity to bag yourself a classic Porsche without breaking the
bank!
