1989 Mitsubishi Shogun LWB

Supplied new by Mitsubishi Motors of Cheltenham in April 1989 via Colt Cars of Cirencester this super example of Mitsubishi’s 1^st Generation of Shogun comes to us in LWB (Long Wheel Base) form and is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine developing 139bhp and 166lb ft of torque driving the rear, or all 4-wheels via 5-speed manual transmission.

Finished in Malacca blue over silver and wearing its original wheels the vehicle looks wonderfully boxy and ‘of its time’ in a very enduring way. Inside, we find grey/blue cloth interior and a surprising array of standard equipment - including high and low ratio, automatic front wheel hubs, power steering, automatic cruise control, alloy wheels, Limited slip rear differential, central locking, height adj. steering wheel, electric windows, electric glass sunroof, laminated windscreen, tinted windows, 4-speaker radio/cassette, headlamp washers, rear heater, rear wiper, heated rear window, inclinometer, interior/exterior temp gauge, altimeter and digital clock. Quite the spec when compared to the domestic competition.

The Shogun’s history file includes the V5C showing just 1 former keeper who owned the car from new until last year when it was sold to a local enthusiast who added it to his collection enjoying some light local use. Showing just 115,859 miles the car really is in remarkably original order – the bodywork straight, the underside tidy, the interior excellent with everything appearing to work as it should.

Furthermore, the history file includes the owner’s pack and service book revealing an astounding 36 service stamps by Mitsubishi main dealers, the first 2 by the supplying dealer and the following 34 by the same Mitsubishi main dealer 0317 (Fields of Bromsgrove). In addition, the first owner kept a fuel diary with almost every journey and fuel usage recorded to the pound and pence from August 1992 (a 352mile journey consuming 68.3 litres costing £30 equalling 23.4mpg) right up until October 2020.

The file also includes a period sales brochure, stereo instruction booklet, current MOT valid until February 2022 with no advisories recorded, a selection of invoices including a recent spend on a water temp gauge (2021), front brake pads (2020), service with some welding to NSR (attending to an MOT failure in 2016), 2 old MOTs and an SD memory card of further maintenance history including PDF service records dating from 1989-2015, PDF’s of all old MOTs from 1992-2019, original bill of sale for purchase in 1989 costing £19,149, correspondence and payment confirmation plus SORN docs.

A super example of a now rare vehicle and a very credible alternative to a classic Range Rover or similar with just as much cache, arguably better build quality and rarity in its favour. We all love this one here!
