1988 Volvo 240 GLT Manual Estate
Rare to find
manual; sensible miles and well kept; just two owners from new; fresh MOT; lots
of service history
A bit like buses, we hadn't seen a 240 GLT manual
estate for quite a while and then two come along in consecutive sales.
This one is a particularly smart example, showing 123,250 miles on the
clock - a mere half-life for one of these robust load-luggers. It was sold new
through Slaters of Abergele, who looked after the car for the next 19 years.
They saw it no fewer than 21 times for service, the last stamp dated 2007 at
111,000 miles, so just 12,000miles have been added in the last 14 years. It
carries their garage sticker in the window and the vendor has even gone to the
trouble to buy some new branded number plates - again through
Slaters.
Clearly well-loved, the car looks most impressive and is very
clean and tidy inside and out. The only fly in the ointment is the area at the
rear of the sills which has rusted - a week point on these cars although it is
33 years old lets not forget. The ever-helpful Brookhouse Volvo supply simple
repair panels - a job which would be well worth the investment in the long term
we feel.
It carries a no advisory MOT until August 2022 and has a handy
towbar included. There is a factory luggage guard and load cover for added
security and the wheels have been refurbished recently too.
These old
240s really are super cars to own and drive and go surprisingly well thanks to
their tall gearing and torquey engines. This one also comes with the rather nice
240 related number plate into the bargain...
