Lot Ended
Description
1970 MG Midget MkIII
Tidy 1275cc Midget
restored on a Heritage shell that's seen little use since restoration in
the late 90s/early 00's
Dating from July 1970,
this appealing MkIII Midget comes in British Racing Green and looks in sound
order having been stored in a dry barn for the past few years. The vendor did have it running but its
proven reluctant to start although eager to turn since
arrival.
The car’s history file includes the
V5C showing its been with our vendor since July 2013. There are 12 previous
owners recorded, 10 old MOTs dating back to 2001 at 31,369 miles up to the last
present in 2016 when it showed just a handful more at 32,486 miles suggesting
the car has seen little action for many years - further confirmed by its
current reading of just 32,495 miles. A spare set of old wire wheels and hubs
also accompanies this Lot along with an unfitted luggage rack in the
boot.
The file also contains a bill for some
exhaust sections dated 2013 and a note dated 2001 referring to the car having
seen extensive restoration work over 2 years (we think 1999-2001) including a
new Heritage shell, new doors, wings Fr & Rr, bonnet and boot lid with all
new hinges too.
In addition, the printed note
suggests the car to have had a new fuel tank, new rear shocks and springs, rear
hubs, brakes, prop-shaft and clutch, steering rack front shocks, re-bushed,
brake pipes and flexis too along with 6 coats of factory under-seal. The note suggests the cost of the
Heritage shell was £2650 with a further £4000 worth of parts - the car priced at
a sensible £6750 but there is no name on it in respect of who was selling the
car or who did the work.
Looking at the car,
it’s clear much of the work stated was done, although some 22+ years ago
perhaps, but the car has seen little use since, remaining in storage for much of
the last 22 years and certainly with our vendor. The car is of course MOT exempt, the
last MOT expired in 2017 so we’d recommend a good service, check over and light
recommission before undertaking any serious road mileage given how little it’s
been used – evidently crying out for some use this smart little MkIII could make
a super summer companion for weekend forays and adventure.
