1959 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II
Nice old
Cloud II with tidy bodywork, lovely re-trimmed interior; ready made
business opportunity?
Dating from January 1959,
this early Series II Silver Cloud was, we gather, supplied to the USA -
returning to the UK and being registered here in September
2014.
Re-finished in Porcelain white over beige
leather, the car features electric windows, bench style front seat offering
seating for six, rear picnic tray tables and period radio. Under the long
bonnet, we find the 6.2 litre V8 engine introduced for the Cloud II, driving the
rear wheels via four-speed GM Hydramatic transmission.
The car has been with our vendor and his Wedding business for the
last 5 years and upon acquisition was treated to a top end engine overhaul and
removal of the US spec Air conditioning system. This reputedly cost some £8,000
(although unfortunately no invoice is on file) by a Rolls specialist in
Leeds. The interior and head lining
have also been replaced along with the dash and door top cappings re-veneered,
new brakes and complete re-paint in Porcelain white.
Lovingly known as ‘Bridgette’, the car has seen sparing use as part
of a wedding fleet of which the of its brethren are in this sale and shows
71,350 miles. Starting and running
with some pops and backfires when we moved it around, we are told it it
needs a replacement cork gasket between the engine and carb which is
affecting the breathing and air/fuel mixture as a result.
The history file includes only the V5C showing 1 former keeper
since import and a note from the vendor on the car. 768 UYH is of course tax and MOT exempt,
the car has not been presented for MOT since registration, but we gather, is in
good order both above and below – but we would ask you to satisfy yourselves of
that on inspection.
