2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4
(996)
Well sorted and optioned face-lift 3.6 auto/tiptronic
all-wheel drive coupe; just 75,000 miles with mega history inc. essential
preventative IMS & RMS replacement
Supplied new by Porsche
Zentrum Hamburg in August 2002 this exceptional face-lift 3.6 Carrera 4 coupe
boasts all-wheel drive sure-footedness with desirable five-speed
automatic/tiptronic transmission (249) and has covered just 70,700 miles in the
hands of its four caring owners and comes with an excellent service
history.
The car very much looks the part finished in Seal Grey (L6B4)
with matching graphite grey full leather interior (CZ) and rides on staggered
five-spoke 18inch Carrera alloy wheels (411) shod in correct N-rated premium
tyres. The options fitted to this car include the rare '09991' code meaning the
car was subject to the 'Sonderwunsch Programme' now known as Porsche's
'Exclusive' scheme for a more bespoke spec where the vehicle leaves the
production line and heads to the 'Werk 1' area for fitment of bespoke/custom
specification.
The options fitted to this car in addition to what comes
as standard include, a rear wiper (425), four-spoke leather Sports steering
wheel with Tiptronic paddles (432), sound pack (490), green graduated tint
windscreen (567), park assist (635), thicker steering wheel (XPA), branded
stainless kick plates (X70), leather rear seat facings (936) and front and rear
leather seats (983). The headlining to this example is finished in brushed grey
suede and we also see an on-board computer and digital climate control with A/C.
Outside we also note fitment of double sports tails to the exhaust and useful
ZunSport mesh grills fitted to the air intakes within the front bumper to
prevent damage to the A/C condensers (they commonly get damaged from
exposure).
BC02 has been with our current lady owner for the past 10
months, prior to this it belonged to a marque enthusiast and retired engineer
for the past few years after many years of air-cooled 911 ownership. During his
tenure and after much research, he opted to have the car undergo some essential
preventative engine-out maintenance carried out by Devon Specialists SCS Porsche
who in May 2019 at a cost of some £2,900 at 66,462 miles replaced the often
troublesome IMS (intermediate shaft) bearing for the revised ceramic hybrid
version, along with the RMS (rear main seal) which is also known to fail, new
uprated crank case bolts, two new rear metal brake pipes, four short
brake pipe to calliper sections, the air to oil separator, a pair of engine
mounts, brake fluid change, underbody wax-oil, service and borescope inspection
of cylinders five & six which were clear of any scoring (another common
996 gremlin).
The history file for this 996 is impressive, within which
we find the V5C, owner's pack and service book showing 13 stamps, the
first seven by Porsche Solihull, followed by five from Dave Griffiths
Racing Ltd of Shrewsbury and last by SCS Porsche Specialist of Devon as
mentioned. In addition to these 13, there are a further six for brake fluid
changes, four for Long Life condition reports and two for airbags
checks.
Invoices on file support many of these stamps, with the most
recent oil change (unstamped) in November 2019 at 69,124 miles which also
included replacement of electronic switch over valve on the side of the gearbox.
Other maintenance of note includes a replacement water pump and exhaust
repair in August 2021, a major service in 2018 costing £2,793 by Dave
Griffiths Racing which included replacement of all belts, an exhaust repair, two
O2 sensors, two new A/C condensers, a new high-pressure pipe and /AC drier
plus re-gas of the A/C system. Another bill on file shows a £5,000 spend in 2016
for suspension/brake components, wheel alignment and annual service. Evidently,
looking through the history it’s been cosseted with a money no object attitude
and with all the common 996 failings having been addressed preventatively rather
than reactively.
We also find 12 old MOTs, a current clean MOT valid
until September 2022, two keys and old copy V5C's. A very well sorted
and presentable Carrera 4 variant in the right colour, original factory
specification with just five owners and only 75,000 miles we feel this
represents a very enticing prospect for regular use or
investment.
Documents: V5C; owners pack & service book with 13 stamps
+ 12 additional; invoices; 12 old MOTs; current MOT August 2022, old V5C copies;
2 keys
