Description
1986 Renault 4 GTL
Wonderfully original UK
market 4 GTL from long term ownership and storage showing just 21,993 miles
believed genuine - find another!?
Supplied new by
Northgate Motors of Canterbury on August 1st 1986 to a Mrs
Stansbridge this delightful, later model Renault 4 model comes in GTL guise, and
is finished in cream. Under the bonnet, we find the peppier 1,108cc 5-bearing
‘Sierra’ water-cooled four-cylinder engine mated to four-speed manual
transmission driving the front wheels.
Showing
just 21,993 miles from new, this time-warp example has spent much of its
life in storage. The first owner
kept the car for four years before trading it back into Northgate Motors
for another Renault where-upon it was sold to its 2nd owner, one Mrs
Briggs who looks to have used the car very sparingly until 1995 when it was
garaged, remaining thus until it passed to her nephew in November 2010 from whom
our vendor acquired the car.
The car was
brought back to Hereford and carefully put into storage once again (although
this was not the original intent) where it remained for the next ten years until
being pulled out and recommissioned with many new parts including clutch kit,
exhaust, shock absorbers etc passing its first MOT since 1995 with no advisories
at all.
An absolute delight to behold, and
immediately lovable when behind the wheel, the car sounded great and felt tight
and eager when we moved it around for these shots and video. In addition, so intrigued by the car
were they, that Kelsey media came and shot the car for two features, one online,
a Classic road test - https://classicsworld.co.uk/cars/renault-4-road-test/ and another for print in one of their upcoming
publications.
The history file includes the V5C
showing just three previous keepers to our vendor, part old V5, old tax
disc from 1992, owner’s pack and the warranty book. This records one stamp
at 1,383 miles in October 1986 by Northgate garage and service booklet
showing three stamps at 5,726 miles in July 1987, 11,622 miles in Sept 1988
and 16,827 miles in July 1989 again, all by Northgate, a booklet celebrating 50
years of the R4, period sales brochure, news paper article road test on the R4
from 2011, current MOT as mentioned and copy old V5C from when our vendor
purchased the car.
Wonderfully original and
unmolested, this cracking R4 is ready to be enjoyed and would be welcome at many
up-coming event, raising a smile and interest wherever it goes. If you look
inside, you will spot some lovely period maps and brochures which have remained
in there since 1989, so unspoilt is this car.
Documents: V5C; copy
old V5C; owners manual; service book; brochure; newspaper article; MOT Dec-22
with no advisories
