1951 Rover P4 75 Cyclops
Rare early Cyclops
P4; only five previously recorded keepers; little recent use but runs and
drives
First registered in July 1951, this rare
old girl shows five previously recorded keepers back to
1983.
Silky smooth and beautifully made,
production of the P4 lasted from 1949 to 1964. This is one of the early designs
with the controversial but iconic central headlight leading to the
‘Cyclops’ nickname.
Power comes from the
2.1-litre straight-six engine, giving a decent performance in the day. The
four-speed manual transmission is operated by the column shift – another feature
of the early P4’s.
Mechanically, it will need a
check over before taking it for any long drives, but it runs and drives. It has
not had an MOT since 2010 and the engine sounds like it is running on five so a
good service/recommission will be the order of the day.
The interior and exterior are presentable, with several areas that
could be improved. It looks little different to how it appeared when it was
taken to the 2007 Tatton Park Classic Car Show - http://retro-motoring.com/events/Tatton-Park-2007/picviewer.php?file=DSCN0312
These are
rarely seen on UK roads and P4s have really come on of late. It looks
attractively estimated too, so fill your boots!
