1927 Talbot Darracq or Bugatti childs
car
Nicely made childs car in fibreglass and wood; super
proportions; part completed project; dismantled petrol engine included but ideal
for electrification
Styled on a GP
Talbot Darracq from the late 1920s (with a whiff of Bugatti thrown in
for good measure), this superb scale build is made of glass fibre and wood and
is both stiff and strong and looks well able to take the weight of a large
child.
The steering wheel is removable for ease of entry and it has belt
drive to the rear axle which looks to be where the build stopped. It has an
embryonic disc brake on the rear too and a box of useful bits which will assist
with completion. The steering is partly in place but needs a bit more work
too.
The builder had intended to fit a small petrol engine, but in its
current state it would be an ideal candidate for an electric conversion -
perhaps using a motor/controller and power pack from a motability scooter -
anyway, that will be the choice of its new owner.
The proportions work
very well and it appears to have been well engineered. If you have a workshop,
ambition and some straightforward build skills, this could easily be finished
off to your own specification and make a super centre-piece or present for your
favourite Grandchild (although of course you shouldn't have
favourites!)
