1989 Bentley Eight
From a deceased estate;
current owner 13 years; excellent service history; very
tempting!
Rolls-Royce had begun the revival of the Bentley marque as
a high performance car with the introduction of the Mulsanne Turbo in 1982.
Launched just two years later, the normally aspirated Eight was intended to
attract a younger generation of buyers to the newly resurgent marque. Visually
distinguished by its racy wire mesh radiator grille – a reference to the
stoneguards worn by the W.O. Le Mans cars – it proved a more sporting drive than
its Mulsanne sibling thanks to specially stiffened front suspension and sharper
steering.
Powered by Crewe's wonderful 6.75 litre V8 engine mated to
three-speed automatic transmission, it was capable of 130mph. Gaining fuel
injection and ABS brakes in 1986, the Eight was a conspicuous success and went
on to sell 1,736 examples worldwide before production ceased in 1992.
Supplied new by Harwoods of Pulborough in November 1989,
this Bentley Eight is finished in Royal Blue with magnolia leather piped in
blue. Equipment includes active ride, EFI, ABS, cruise control, parking sensors,
heated front seats and lambswool over-mats.
It has covered 94,670 miles
to date in the hands of six owners, our vendor acquiring it from marque
specialists JK Seymour Ltd of Leeds in December 2009 for £11,950 when it had
covered 70k miles and was advertised as being "maintained to the highest
standards; superb throughout". The service book has 16 stamps, the last at
76,921 miles in 2011, giving an average service interval of just 4,800 miles up
to that point.
During his 13-year ownership our vendor has continued to
look after the car very well, as shown by many invoices on file. There are bills
for at least four services, the oil and filter being last changed 2,400 miles
ago in 2018. Other bills of note include: Waxoil treated in 2010; all four
wheels refurbished in June 2014; new drive belts in December 2014; new rear
damper in March 2016 ; new rear suspension gas spheres in March 2017; new PAS
cooler, oil cooler and ATF fluid in August 2017; a £3,400 spend in August 2018
which included new rear axle oil seals, new rear crank oil seals, new auto
transmission pan gasket, reconditioned steering rack and a new water pump; air
con service and new compressor in September 2018; new Avon tyres in 2019.
There are 13 old MOTs from 2007 (at 68k miles) onwards,
the last having expired in March 2020 with no advisories. All the original
handbooks are present in the original leather wallet. As you can see in the
photos, it is in generally good order throughout with a lovely interior and good
bodywork apart from a few rust bubbles on the bottom of the boot lid. On offer
here from a deceased estate, it has been parked up in a dry garage for the last
couple of years but has been starting easily with a jump pack and running very
sweetly as we have moved it around on site.
Beautifully made by proper craftsmen and capable of
turning every journey into an occasion, this Bentley looks an absolute steal at
the modest guide price suggested.
Documents: V5C; 13 old MOTs; invoices;
