1974 Triumph TR6
Ex-Triumph management
car; comprehensively rebuilt engine; recent injection recalibration;
replacement diff; new tyres; fortune recently spent; great
opportunity
Looking good in Pimento red, this 1974 TR6 was first
registered to Triumph Motors under the Management Car Plan scheme, a way that
Senior Managers could run their company cars according to the accompanying BMIHT
Certificate.
Obviously a RHD home market car, it was fitted with an
overdrive, static seatbelts and at that time was supplied with a hard top
(no longer present)....the Michelin XAS tyres are also long gone!
It was
purchased by the vendor in 2015 from a dealer near Peterborough, its
previous owner having owned the car for the previous 10 years. Plenty of bills
are on file from this period, showing lots of care and attention.
Its
new owner decided to upgrade the seats with those out of an MX5. He has
the originals if its new owner would like to collect them from Market
Drayton within two weeks of the sale. The interior trim was tidied up and a
new hood cover added too. The hood itself is in excellent condition with a zip
out rear window. You will note the steering wheel is non-standard, although
there are a choice of two more in the boot.
Within a few months, Rimmer
Brothers supplied a recondition diff unit complete with a new 3.45:1 cwp and
shortly after that, new boot mats and a boot trim kit were added.
A year
or so later, the gearbox started to show its age. The car was taken to Classic
and Vintage Restoration who removed the gearbox and stripped and rebuilt it. An
invoice on file shows new bearings, bushes and synchro rings were fitted, along
with a new reverse idler, lay shaft and layshaft gear. A new overdrive unit was
also fitted along with a new thrust ring, clutch pivot and starter ring gear.
The flywheel was skimmed and a new clutch added while they were in there. The
overall bill totalled £2,570.
In 2018 the alternator was replaced and
then last year, a mysterious engine misfire was traced to a problem with the
block. This entailed a full rebuild on a sound replacement block, including
a new camshaft, piston set and installation. The presentation of the underbonnet
area remains very clean and tidy.
A string of MOTs back to 1985 when it
had covered 64,738 miles would suggest its current indicated 81,850 miles is
correct, its current no advisory MOT running until January 2023.
It was
driven some 50+ miles to the sale and looks excellent value at the suggested
guide price.
