1988 Nissan 300ZX

Rare 1980's 2+2 Targa 3.0-V6; auto box; up and coming UK model

Dating from September 1987, this '80s Nissan 300ZX hails from the Z31 era, the first itineration of the re-branded Z-car that followed on from the iconic 24oz,26oz and 28ounce Datusns of the 1970s. This model was known in Japan as the Fairlady-Z and unlike its predecessors used Nissan’s new ‘mass-produced’ naturally aspirated 3.0 litre VG30E single overhead cam V6 engine driving the rear wheels here, through four-speed automatic transmission with O/D.

This bright red example comes to us from 13-year ownership and is an original UK supplied car with 2+2 seating and removable Targa roof panels. The car’s paint work won't win any awards but is generally presentable, the interior comfortable and well optioned for the time period.

Showing 102,588 miles the car was driven to the sale, but unfortunately seems to have developed a blow in the centre part of the exhaust during its journey down – it certainly sounds very throaty now! 

The history file includes the V5C showing 6 former keepers, SORN docs, CD workshop manual, and two old MOTs dating from 2007 and 2009 at 102,143 miles suggesting the car has seen little recent use in the last 13 years with our vendor. The car’s current MOT (the first since 2009) is valid until October 2022 recording just 1 advisory for an exhaust leak.

This era of Japanese sports cars have recently really rocketed in value, with 240 and 260Z’s now up around £30 and 40k and other models following suit, so this could prove a shrewd investment at the modest guide price, leaving scope for further improvement.
