2014 Land Rover Defender 110 XS County Station
Wagon
Only one owner and 6,500 miles from new; XS spec
7-seater diesel; a beautiful machine in excellent condition
The Land Rover
Defender (L316) was produced from 1983 – 2016 although it was only branded as
the Defender from 1990 onwards to differentiate it from the new Discovery. A
significant step up from the old Series III, it borrowed features from the Range
Rover such as coil springs all round which greatly improved both ride quality
and axle articulation compared to the leaf-sprung models of old. A two-speed
transfer gearbox with a lockable centre differential gave permanent 4x4
capability and the wheel arches were extended to cover new wider-track
axles.
In order to attract families as well as
farmers, an upmarket County version was made available with improved interior
trim, while a top-of-the-range XS spec was also available from 2002 onwards
which had a host of luxury options such as heated seats, heated windscreen, air
con, ABS and traction control, electric front windows and improved dashboards
with better illumination etc.
From 2012 the
diesel versions got the new Ford Duratorq ZSD-422 engine, a 2.2 turbo which
produced the same power and torque as the old 2.4 unit (153bhp/400Nm) but with
much cleaner emissions. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, the Defender could now
cruise comfortably at motorway speeds.
This
superb Defender 110 XS diesel was bought new by our vendor, a North of England
4x4 dealer, in March 2014. A top spec XS 7-seater with various tasty options
including heated seats, air con, big alloy wheels and a padded front A-bar, it
has covered only 6,500 miles to date, mainly going to shows as a promotional
vehicle for his business and also being loaned to a local hotel for occasional
use as a courtesy vehicle. Inbetween times it has always been kept in a heated
garage.
Said to have
been serviced twice by Land Rover Pickering (although there are no
stamps/invoices to support this), it is in excellent condition throughout and
comes with its original bookpack and an MOT until November 2022.
The
last of the separate chassis Land Rovers, these Defender L316 models have
developed a cult following of late and your only dilemma with this one will be
deciding whether to pile the miles on and get it dirty, or just tuck it away as
an investment.
